How to Stay Bloat Free on Vacation
Planning your next getaway? Let’s make sure you stay bloat-free, energized, and happy throughout your travels! Below are some practical tips, split into two categories ‘Airplane Ready’ and ‘On Vacay’.
Airplane ready
How many of us have taken a flight and felt super bloated and sluggish after? I know I definitely have!!
Here are a few tips to try on your next flight to keep that from happening:
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Airplanes can be incredibly dehydrating. Drink plenty of water before and during your flight. Staying hydrated is key to preventing bloating and keeping your skin bloating. Add a dash of good quality sea salt or electrolytes if possible. Staying hydrated is key to preventing bloating, dry skin, and fatigue.
2. Smaller meals
Flying can affect digestion, so opt for smaller, lighter meals to avoid feeling overly full or bloated. Consider things like fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds, chomp sticks, etc.
3. Pack digestive enzymes
Digestive enzymes are a life saver for travel. Take them before consuming food on your flight to aid in digestion and reduce bloating.
4. Herbal tea
Bring your favourite herbal teas to sip on during your flight, all you’ll need to add is water! They can aid in digestion, help you de-stress and feel good (shop my fav).
5. A good greens powder
A good greens powder is packed with micronutrients. Greens powders are not a necessity, whole-foods are always the first option but it can be challenging to get in enough quality vegetables when flying. I portion out a little ziplock and keep it in my carry on bag.
6. Skincare essentials
Carry a small portion of your skincare routine in your carry-on. I like to cleanse and moisturize mid-flight (for long flights) or towards the end (for shorter flights). This keep my skin hydrated and feeling refreshed overall.
On vacay
1. Daily Movement
A little movement each day goes a long way. I love starting my day with a walk to get my morning coffee. A few short walks daily can aid digestion and keep you energized. Try the Down Dog app for some gentle stretching, especially if your back feels sore from the hotel bed. They have a free version that works well.
2. Warm Lemon Water to Start the Day
Kickstart your metabolism and digestion by starting your day with warm lemon water. Add a splash of apple cider vinegar if possible.
3. Stay Hydrated
Keep drinking water throughout the day to stay hydrated and help your body function optimally. Consider adding a dash of a good quality sea salt or electrolytes for minerals.
4. Balanced Meals
Aim to include a source of protein, fat, and fiber in every meal and snack. This combination helps you stay full longer, regulates blood sugar, reduces cravings, lowers inflammation, and keeps your bowel movements regular.
5. Don’t Stress About Food
Enjoy your meals and the local cuisine. Follow the balanced meal suggestion above, but don’t over-stress it! We are looking for consistency not perfection. Life is short, so savour those extra sweets and drinks while making amazing memories.
6. Evening Herbal Tea
Wind down with a cup of herbal tea in the evening. It aids digestion, promotes relaxation, and can help to improve sleep.
7. Me Time
Take some ‘me time’ every day if you can. I set aside an hour in the late afternoon to recharge alone, which is essential for managing my autoimmune condition. If sharing a hotel room, even a 10-minute bath can provide some uninterrupted alone time.
